A 4-day intensive project management workshop that gives a comprehensive overview of the main features, tools, and techniques of project management. This course is aligned to SAQA US 120385 - Apply a range of project management tools and techniques, at NQF level 4 for 7 credits.  This course also builds on US 120372 - Explain the fundamentals of project management.

Delegates will work on case studies and apply the knowledge to their work environment. Delegates will complete formative and summative assessments in class and prepare a Portfolio of Evidence, which will be formally assessed and submitted to Service Seta to be verified. 

This course covers essential project management principles, methodologies, and tools, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to effectively plan, execute, and control projects in various organizational contexts. By exploring frameworks like Waterfall, PMBOK, PRINCE2, and Agile, learners gain a broad understanding of when and how to apply each. Participants also dive into organizational structures, roles, and responsibilities—ensuring they can navigate stakeholder relationships and establish clear lines of authority.

Key topics such as the project life cycle, goals and objectives, and creating a project charter help solidify foundational concepts. Meanwhile, risk management, communication strategies, and planning tools (like WBS, PERT, and Gantt charts) add depth to practical, day-to-day project leadership. Ultimately, learners emerge with a well-rounded toolkit for project delivery, from scope definition and budgeting to stakeholder engagement, risk mitigation, and effective decision-making.

Audience

Ideal for someone new to project management or on a project team who does not have a formal project management qualification, but who needs a grasp of the terminology and methodology of project management in order to effectively participate in a project team. This is a great base course for someone embarking on a career as a project manager or who would like to find out if project management is the path for them.

It is also an excellent refresher course. 

Pre-Requisites

Any work experience is beneficial.  No direct project management experience necessary, although it is beneficial to have been involved in project work.

One must have the knowledge component of the Leading Training Project Management Fundamentals Course in place or have attended the Fundamentals course if you are completely new to project management.  If you are not able to attend this course, please request a pre-reading pack to cover this knowledge component.  

Please note that this course requires computer skills and delegates need to have access to a computer / laptop to complete the course.  Access to a stable internet connection is essential for webinar attendees.   Classroom based delegates can hire a laptop if needed.  MS Word and MS Excel will be used in class and access to a Learner Mangement System will be given - Moodle, to access exercises and resources.
