This course is about solving problems, making decisions, and implementing solutions.  You will gain a clear, step-by-step framework for defining and investigating issues, brainstorming creative solutions, confidently implementing action plans, and evaluating results. This will help you develop stronger decision-making skills, enhance your ability to be effective in a work environment and earn credits recognised on the NQF, making you more credible and in-demand in the workplace.

 

This course covers the specific outcomes for US242817, accredited at NQF Level 4 for 8 credits and forms part of our Further Education and Training Certificate in Generic Management (NQF Level 4) qualification.

Audience

Pre-Requisites

  • Grade 11
  • Basic English writing skills
  • Basic Computer skills 
  • Some business experience required

Course Outline / Curriculum


Module 1: Define the Problem

  • Problems are defined according to verified information.
  • The rationale for consulting with stakeholders and role-players is explained to ensure that they contribute to the various stages of the problem-solving process.
  • Techniquest in the formulation of the problem definition are explored and explained, according to theory and practice.
  • A technique is selected in line with the context of the problem.

 

Module 2: Investigate the Problem 

  • A problem is investigated to ascertain the various components.
  •  Further information is obtained if required, and all information is critically examined for its relevance to the problem.

 

Module 3: Generate Problem Solutions

  • Possible solutions are generated by using a range of problem-solving techniques.
  • Criteria are identified and weighted to enable the ranking of proposed solutions.
  • Possible solutions are evaluated against the established criteria in order to determine suitability.

 

Module 4: Implement Solution(s)

  • The optimum solution(s) is(are) selected in accordance with the given criteria.
  • Stakeholders are consulted prior to implementation, so as to obtain commitment.
  • The selected solution(s) is (are) implemented according to organisational constraints.

 

Module 5: Evaluate the Effectiveness of the Solution

  • Criteria for the measurement of the effectiveness of the solution are identified according to the problem definition.
  • The effectiveness of the solution is evaluated against the criteria.
  • Corrective action is identified and applied, where possible.

If you have fewer delegates and cannot pay for 6, we can negotiate a shortened course where some of the time will be spent in blended learning - watching videos and doing tutorials and exercises with some contact time with the trainer. We would want to discuss what your core needs are so that we cover those aspects. You need to have paid for 3 delegates at least.
