Sexual Harassment Awareness Workshop Outline (6 Hours)

Introduction (30 minutes)

  • Overview of relevant South African laws (Employment Equity Act, etc.)

Session 1: Understanding Sexual Harassment (60 minutes)

  • Definitions and types of sexual harassment (quid pro quo, hostile work environment)
  • South African-specific examples and case studies
  • Group discussion on recognizing harassment

Session 2: Rights and Responsibilities (60 minutes)

  • Employee rights under South African law
  • Employer responsibilities for a safe workplace
  • Role of bystanders and bystander intervention techniques

Session 3: Reporting and Handling Complaints (60 minutes)

  • Internal reporting procedures and confidentiality
  • Role of external bodies (e.g., CCMA) and escalating complaints

Session 4: Building a Respectful Workplace Culture (60 minutes)

  • Importance of respect, diversity, and inclusion
  • Strategies for fostering a harassment-free environment
  • Ongoing training and leadership accountability

Session 5: Support and Resources (30 minutes)

If you have fewer delegates and cannot pay for 6, we can negotiate a shortened course where some of the time will be spent in blended learning - watching videos and doing tutorials and exercises with some contact time with the trainer. We would want to discuss what your core needs are so that we cover those aspects. You need to have paid for 3 delegates at least.
